In June 1941, four local lodges of the IAM in the Quad Cities area formed a Machinists' Council to promote organization of local machine shops. In October 1942 the Machinists' Council was chartered as District Lodge 102. As an official district of the IAM, District 102 supported local lodges and worked to organize more.
